Ang sekswal na panliligalig o mas kilala sa ingles bilang “Sexual Harassment” ay karanasang tinatamasa ng mga kababaihan hindi lamang dito sa Pilipinas kundi maging sa buong panig ng mundo. Ang sekswal na panliligalig ay isang pananakot na may katangiang sekswal sa isang taong masasabing walang kalaban-kalaban. At kung iyong sasabihin na ikaw ay nakaranas ng ganitong pagtrato, hindi ikaw ang una at hindi lang ikaw ang magsasabi na minsan ka na ring nabastos. Ngunit nagkaroon ka ba ng lakas ng loob para ipaglaban ang sarili mo? Kung hindi, huwag kang mag-alala dahil karamihan sa mga taong nababastos ay walang nagagawa pero pagkakatandaan mo na hindi pa huli ang lahat para matutunan kung paano mo maipaglalaban ang sarili mo. Higit pa riyan, wag kang panghinaan ng loob dahil ang ating pamahalaan ay may ipinatupad ng mga batas upang mas maiwasan ang ganitong sitwasyon. Isa lamang sa mga batas na ito ay Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995 is an act of declaring sexual harassment unlawful in the employment, education or training environment, and for other purposes. 

Isa rin ako sa mga naging biktima ng sekswal na panliligalig. Nang isang taong malapit sa akin. Isang tao na kapwa estudyante ko. Isang tao na may edad dose katulad ko noon. At kagaya ng iba sa mga biktima, hindi rin ako nagkaroon ng lakas ng loob para patigilin siya, para tanggalin ang kamay niya sa akin. At bukod dito, nagawa rin niyang ipagsabi ang kasamaang nagawa sa isang kaibigan. Ngunit dahil siguro kami ay mga bata pa ay wala na rin siyang nagawa. Ang nais ko lang ipabatid ay panahon na siguro upang turuan ang lahat kung paano maiwasan ang sekswal na panliligalig at kung paano maipaglaban ang sarili hindi alintana ang pagkakaiba ng kasarian, sekswalidad, edad, relihiyon, at hindi alintana ang pagkakaiba.

Well, let me define it for you. Sexual harassment is an uninvited or unwelcome verbal or physical behavior of a sexual nature especially by a person in authority toward a subordinate. Now if you would tell me that you’ve experienced being harassed, you are not the only one and you are not the first person who encountered the same situation. There are a lot of people who have been a victim of this abuse.

Personally, I’ve experienced being harassed at an early age of 12. It was by someone whom I treated as a good friend. Someone who is a fellow student. Someone who’s age is same as mine. And I didn’t have the courage to stop him, to remove his hand off of me. And aside from that, he also proudly told his friend what he did and what he felt after harassing me sexually. Up until now, I am still bothered by the fact that a young boy can do such malicious thing. So what do I want to imply? To spread? I think that it’s the time to pay attention on how to educate each and everyone of us more about sexual harassment and how to fight for ourselves regardless of our gender, sexuality, age, religion, and regardless of our diversion.
